Types of mechanism for office chairs

Prolonged sitting in front of a computer and office work that involves looking at a screen for hours on end for can cause lumbar and back pain. For this reason, particularly if you’ll be spending long days sitting down, it’s important that your chair includes suitable mechanisms to adapt to your needs.

There is a wide variety of mechanism types for office chairs – some more simple, some more complex and sophisticated. Below you can find the most common ones. Please note that the picture of each model is for reference only, each manufacturer uses their own designs but the functions are always the same:

The backrest and seat maintain a constant angle to accompany and cushion your movements. Allows users to choose between a tilting or fixed position, with the option to lock the seat at various points.

RELAX (24 hours)

The point of rotation is slightly forward of the chair’s natural axis, so that, when tilted towards the front edge of the seat, it maintains its fixed position. The advantage of this type of mechanism is that when leaning back, the chair allows users to keep their feet firmly planted on the floor, while the body obtains a more relaxed position.
